What were you doing for fitness training before joining BVC?
I had joined CrossFit about a year before moving to CrossFit Banff. Before that, I was heading to the gym most days but really wasn’t sure what to do and relied on Pinterest for workouts.
What made you decide to try CrossFit?
I spent years envious of my friends that did CrossFit. I was so intrigued by the community and workouts but was always too intimidated to try. When I moved to the Bow Valley, a free intro class was extended to me, and I was immediately hooked!
What improvements have you made that you are most proud of?
- My kipping (and a little bit of strict) HSPUs
- My double unders
- My pacing. It took me a long time to learn how to pace myself for AMRAPs or long WODs, but lately, I’ve noticed a big difference in my pacing!
How has CrossFit changed your life/lifestyle?
I do a lot of activities but CrossFit is my constant. I get so much fulfillment out of seeing each little progression! And CrossFit transfers to so many other things in my life – from other forms of exercise to moving my summer tires into storage to trying to keep up with my students! CrossFit has definitely kept me feeling healthy and strong.
Tell us about any other activities you love to do outside of the gym.
Oh gosh – I try and do everything the Bow Valley has to offer! Summer is filled with hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, golfing and paddling. In the winter I’m often snowboarding or XC skiing. Year round you can find me walking my dog around town and on the river path!
What is one of your goals for this upcoming year?
To take my handstands off the wall!
What motivates you during a WOD?
Honestly, knowing that it’s only an hour out of my day to make me feel a thousand times better. Some good music and great members help too!
If you could create your own WOD,
what would it be?
Something descending and a little longer like
21-18-15-12-9
Cal bike
Kipping HSPUs
Overhead squats
If someone was thinking of joining CrossFit Banff what would you say to them?
Absolutely do it! Commit to just one class and I promise any reservations you have will be erased. Also the couch to CrossFit program is a GREAT place to start and answers any and all of your questions!
