What made you decide to try CrossFit?
In 2018 I had a roller coaster of a year. I experienced some hardship early in the year that left me with exercise related anxiety attacks. I have always been an active person, and at times quite fit. But this anxiety was crippling. I knew I had to get back on the horse and saw Couch to CrossFit advertised on Instagram. I felt that with Liz at the helm, in a place where I could be an absolute beginner with low expectations of myself, and a supportive environment, I could overcome the anxiety. And I did!
What improvements have you made in the past year that you are most proud of?
Aside from overcoming my anxiety, I’m most proud of sticking with it. I have seen great improvement in my strength, my cardiovascular endurance, and my confidence. Also, after a year I can now do double unders!
If you could give yourself one piece of advice when you started CrossFit, what would it be?
It may be a scary, but you’re worth it! Just try.
Do you have any advice for other people who are looking to try CrossFit?
It’s not only what you see on social media. If you think ‘maybe I’ll try it, one day’… make that day today. You’re worth it. Start slow, you’ll be better tomorrow
How has CrossFit changed your life/lifestyle?
CrossFit has re-invigorated my love for fitness. It introduced me to a wonderful new community; and taught me that working out in the morning is awesome!
Tell us about any other activities you love to do outside of the gym.
I love to hike & road bike in the summer. In the winter I love Karate- shout out Banff Kyokushin Karate. It is a completely different, but totally complementary form of fitness. One helps me do the other, and vice versa
If you created a WOD named after you….what movements would it consist of?
Rowing, & kettle bell swings and ab mat sit-ups and box jumps – wearing the weight vest.
What is one of your goals for your next year of CrossFit?
I want an unassisted pull up. Just 1. Strict, kipping, butterfly. However. Just one.
Anything you would like to add?
I’m really grateful to Liz and CrossFit Banff for the community she’s created and all the support & friendship that has come from it. It’s a really great place.
Lindsey, we are so grateful that you decided to join us, almost a year ago now.
Your energy in the gym and encouragement for others brings sheer joy to CrossFit Banff.
It has been an absolute pleasure to watch you progress over the months and watching you crush the double-unders now is phenomenal! Here’s to the next year!!!!
